Friends:
Last Monday, I endorsed my friend and Senate colleague,
Hillary Clinton, for president. I believe strongly in
Hillary's candidacy and am joining the campaign as a
national co-chair.
My decision was driven by my belief that the stakes in
this election are extraordinarily high. The next president
must be experienced, intelligent, seasoned and strong.
I believe that Hillary Clinton is all of these things
and more.
I have known the Clintons for nearly twenty years. The
former president and I served together as governors,
and Susan and Hillary served together as first ladies
of our respective states. Over the last 6½ years, I have
gotten to know her even better as a colleague in the
Senate.
We've traveled together to Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan,
and I've seen the respect she commands from foreign leaders.
I sit next to Hillary on the Senate Armed Services Committee,
and I know she is tough and smart and ready to be the
next commander-in-chief.
Hillary will run the kind of campaign that will appeal
to all corners of America and an administration that
will be fiscally responsible, emphasize middle class
concerns, and be responsive to the needs of ordinary
Americans.
I hope you'll join me in supporting Hillary. Before she
can make history, she needs our help to get there.
